www.thegauntlet.com/article/298/22215/First-OPETH-Single-ReleasedThis is the first single from their coming album. Its out in september I think. Its sparked off a few debates and angry fanboys giving out about how different it is (ignoring the fact that they are by definition a PROGRESSIVE band). What do people think? Apparently Akerfield is losing his ability to do growl vocals and stuff. Hes clean vocals are great too though. I think it would have been nicer to hear less keyboard in the mix and more guitar, but then again thats probably what they were going for to create this particular style and atmosphere. Cant wait to hear the rest of the album.

Ah sure, no problem there at all. Except the album art, sweet jesus it's horrid. What's the story with the bad album art this year? First Deconstruction and now this.

The album art looks like something you'd see from a 70's prog rock manifesto.

I like it. Sounds good. And despite the fact that I love Opeth, I've never been a fan of gruff vocals anyway, so if Mikael can't do them anymore, that just means they're going to progress in a way I like even more.
I see your point about the keyboard Liam, but it's not terrible, just different. Definitely going to get the album when it comes out.

I really like it. Reminds me of when I first heard the lotus eater, I'm getting properly excited for the album now. The silly fanboys should just keep listening to BWP. It'll make their gigs interesting if Mikael can't produce growls anymore. Again, I don't mind, it'll be cool to see them do the songs without growls.

I'm not an opeth fanboy, but definitely of the opinion that blackwater park is their best album. The way the music is going now anyway, growling doesn't suit. even the last album was a clear step towards stuff more like this current track. On a side note, for some reason, when my laptop crashed months back, it deleted all of the "O" folder in my music. So I lost all my opeth, except what was on my mp3 player, namely BWP and Deliverance.

I'm with Quill on Blackwater Park, pure masterpiece. Honestly, I enjoy all of their stuff, but they never reached that pinnacle again.

It grows on you aswell. Id probly get the album regardless of whether I like this track to see the other ones anyway. Blackwater Park and Deliverance will always be what pops into my head when I think Opeth. Its fantastic to see them bringing out new material without rehashing old ideas aswell. If they brought out Blackwater Park Part 2 it would be shite like.

Ah I'll get the album anyway, if just to give it a listen. Sounding good so far anyway. You're right though Liam, Blackwater Park II would just be a waste of time I reckon (though I'd still like to give it a listen! ) Who's producing the new one, out of interest? Steven Wilson?

That's an awesome track. Since I hate gruff I'm really looking forward to this album since even though I like Opeth's instrumentals I hated the gruff. Now I can have one without the other.

I know they have and I did like those tracks but I could never fully enjoy any of their albums due to gruff singing.
