Relentless is a cruel mistress. Been overdosing on that for the past two weeks with projects. Pretty sure my brains are turning to battery acid.

Upboat for FF9, the king of all Final Fantasies. They all have their positives, some better some slightly worse, but IX just takes all the best parts from throughout the series and puts them together in a nice neat package.

Never liked the look of 9. And I feel qualified to say that, because "the look of 9" in the context of what i'm saying, means watching Dave playing it for hours and hours.
also relentless mixed with pepsi is delicious. Dave put me on that.

Nine just has the most weight of any of the FFIXs, I think. When you're running around, it feels more... solid. Rather than in 7 and 8, where you can see your square super-imposed over other squares on the world. (well, in ff8 it looks more like paper, but anyway.)
That and the amount of random shite going on in it. Loads of sidequests (the bread and butter of all FF games, no matter what the 13 fanboys say) Also the fact that world actually changes as time passes, and my personal favourite thing about the game - it's the only final fantasy game I know of where absolutely everything in the game is part of the story. Summons? Used for warfare. Limit Breaks? The very reason the (second) last boss was such a threat was because he was in HIS limit break... White Magic, Black Magic, and Blue Magic? All different ways that people manifest their knack for magic.... In general, it was awesome, making a Final Fantasy game where what the player is doing is actually related to the story, rather than simply being the method for its progression.

^Also even though it had the most "cutesy" looking art style it also had some of the darkest themes. Vivi who it's agreed is the most adorable and lovable character in any FF game has to face the fact that at any time he may just . . . stop. That's just sad.

I spent a couple of hours this evening playing Red Dead Redemption online, testing out the new xbox live. Will be testing out some of my other games over the next while.
I wonder if you can play Mercenaries online ... probably not, but that would be convenient.

@eamonn There's nothing wrong with cutesy art! Look at Wind Waker.

You can play Mercenaries online. When you go into it there's 3 options, and the top one is for solo and the bottom is for split screen. The middle option that's always highlighted in red, won't be highlighted in red if you've got xbox live. That's how you play online Hows the red dead online?

@eamonn There's nothing wrong with cutesy art! Look at Wind Waker. Never said there was I just love the contrast between the art and the subject matter. There's a whole lot of loss and existential questioning in that game.

It's all a metaphor for Sakaguchi's desire to leave after FFX. Think about it.
